Context & Objectives

A business unit (five industrial sites and 800 employees) within a group is facing aggressive competition in key segments for both itself and the group. This competition is evident not only in terms of each player's customers, but also in the job market, with active poaching.

It is in these circumstances that several key managers have left the company and the current Industrial Director is unavailable. This is also reflected in the company's unsatisfactory operational performance. The company therefore decided to urgently call on a transitional Industrial Director.

Mission

The Industrial Director's short-term mission is to

Ø  Immediately take on all direct operational management of the function, interacting constantly with site teams and customers (especially in the absence of certain middle managers);

Ø  Take control of the teams and build their confidence through hands-on, effective management;

Ø  Ensure the necessary communication and relations with management, staff, customers, and external stakeholders such as administrative authorities;

Ø  Contribute to the management of contract terminations with customers and participate in the preparation of new contracts and renewals;

Ø  Help rebuild a sustainable management team within the ITU.

Results

The selected Interim Industrial Director has more than 20 years of industrial experience in several business units of groups or mid-sized companies in highly technical sectors, with very high standards in terms of operational, environmental, economic, and safety performance. He quickly restored confidence among site managers through his operational legitimacy and constant presence at their side. He managed to stabilize the human side of operations and launched operational improvement initiatives in terms of tool availability (breakdown and maintenance period management), safety, cost control, and environmental compliance.

He actively participates in “pre-sales” by joining customer reception teams at sites, helping to achieve collective “quick wins.”

After 13 months, he hands over to a permanent successor from within the Group.
